Hi, I’m Liv. I’m a visual strategist and cultural researcher fascinated by how we build enquiry in creative and cultural projects, and I’m fascinated by how the internet is changing our perception, and how we see, search and feel. My process balances intuition with methodicalness to identify the best way to carry out ‘research’; and I take pleasure in sharing my findings in ways that are authentic to the brief, my collaborators and clients – expressing ideas in concise publications as well as interactive engagements.

Recently I’ve been collaborating with studios, organisations and agencies to help shape their concepts, content and purpose. From quick-turnaround visual inspiration and territory mapping, to deep-dive strategic and applied research, I’ve worked on projects for The Liminal Space, Google, BlinkInk, Franklin Till, Ennismore, forpeople, UKRI, The Natural History Museum, Wellcome Trust, Nike, BBC and Selfridges.

I also teach on the University of Brighton Visual Communication course, where I encourage multidisciplinary approaches to image making and visual research in order to solve problems and tell stories. In 2019 I curated an exhibition, Representing Realness, exploring  contemporary image making and illustration in an age of prozac, selfies and #metoo

Liv Taylor

Has image search made us nostalgic?… In the age of Instagram, how do brands and organisations express themselves in innovative and meaningful ways?… How can we neutralise the language that is coded into online search?… What does a collective conscious look like?… Why can’t I focus on one thing at a time?… Can we design knowledge systems that are open-source and open-minded rather than hierarchical and elitist?… What does the collective conscious look like?… What do our #s tell us about our psychology?… How can we code hope and optimism?…

My Ongoing Research

I want to reveal metadata: the hidden languages, histories and sentiments that are coded into our visual world – from our museum archives and our Instagram collections, to our learning environments and living room walls.

Through my process, I’ve been experimenting with existing everyday technologies to capture and archive my research, which connects high and low culture, the established and unexpected

I’m grounded by principles of collaboration, conversation and empathy and hope to design processes that can foster this way of working.
